RESEARCH PROJECTS

The fields of expertise of the biologists of Explos-Nature cover a broad spectrum in biology: seaweeds, marine invertebrates, fish, birds, seals and whales, as well as animal behaviour, the management of fauna, anatomy and physiology.

The studies are carried out with various ministries, universities and local partners with two goals in mind:

  • To understand the interaction of ecosystems;
  • To offer our customers scientific vulgarization of primary quality.

MARINE SECTION  :

The biologists take part in a good amount of scientific research as technicians, consultants, project leaders or researchers particularly on:

  • The potential exploitation of laminar algae;
  • The abundance of zebra mussels in the river estuary of the St. Lawrence;
  • The diet of gray, habor and Greenaland seals in the estuary and Gulf of the St. Lawrence;
  • The impact of deep-sea diving on the fauna and flors of the St. Lawrence (see report of the study).

ORNITHOLOGICAL SECTION;

The Observatoire d'oiseaux de Tadoussac (OOT) is an important link in the monitoring network of the population of birds since it is the only observatory to cover the province of Québec and one of the rare observatories in the East of North America. Thanks to a team of employees and volunteers, the OOT has managed to ring several thousand birds which travel throughout the world. Research of the OOT relates to marine birds, raptors, owls, sparrows and other boreal species.
